abstract = "The Brazilian semiarid region is characterized by low water
availability, intermittent rivers and the massive use of dams as a
water source for human supply and other uses. This research used a
methodology for analysis of remote sensing images of the MODIS
time series for monitoring the spectral response of the water from
Armando Ribeiro Gon{\c{c}}alves reservoir in the semiarid and
time series of acute diarrheal disease (ADD) occurrence, weekly
recorded from 2002 to 2012, in 22 municipalities of Rio Grande do
Norte state supplied by this reservoir. The results showed that
the prevalence of ADD in these municipalities each year of the
time series was not associated with the period of larger influence
of chlorophyll-a, an indicator of the eutrophication level of the
water, and / or decrease in the amount of water in reservoir, but
on the period of greatest influence of inorganic material
suspended in the spectral signature of the water associated with
rainy periods and the flood of the reservoir. Greater association
of ADD occurrence dynamics with local climate dynamics was
observed, and other variables such as seasonal rainfall seem to
have greater influence to explain the temporal patterns of
occurrence of the disease in this region.",
